Davey is seeking an entomologist to fill the position of Science Advisor for the Pacific Northwest Region. As a subject matter expert, science advisors link research & development at the Davey Institute to technical service programs prescribed by field operations teams across North America. Davey field personnel perform diagnosis of biotic and abiotic problems to prescribe the best products, application procedures, and cultural solutions for our clients' needs.
You will be joining a geographically distributed team of regional subject matter experts in plant health care. Davey Institute scientists are recognized experts with advanced degrees in fields such as entomology, horticulture, urban forestry, forestry, turf, agronomy, plant pathology, plant physiology, computer science or botany. Science Advisors share the Davey Institute's collective body of knowledge with field technicians and clients through site visits, training seminars, and electronically accessible photo, and video databases. Science Advisors also contribute, by attending industry & academic conferences, vetting new products & services, or performing scientific research.
Who We're Looking For:
*MS or PhD in entomology or related plant science discipline *Ability to work with multiple collaborators in a team-based work environment
*Talent for teaching to an audience of professionals and laypersons
*Strong communication skills for presenting in person, remotely, and via technical writing *Prior experience using technology to communicate scientific concepts and research required *Willingness to travel locally and nationally up to 50% *Required: Valid Driver's license and ability to lift, up to 50 pounds
What You'll Do:
*Assist Davey Service Lines in strategic, growth-oriented programs *Provide consultative support to field operations and clients via telephone, internet, and site visits *Screen new products or services in support of Davey Institute research and development *Assess treatment responses, both indoors and outdoors, which may involve lifting, digging, and chemical applications. *Serve as subject matter expert during business development, bid development, or client meetings
